Read before installing ↓

This is an early release tested on a live WordPress site, with automated backend and plugin checks. It is distributed directly by On1Q and has not been listed or approved by WordPress.org. Back up your site before installing.

01 / GET READY

Before you begin.

The plugin is free to download. The hosted On1Q service is separate: you need an account, a registered and verified website, and an approved campaign invitation before questions can run.

  • A WordPress website with administrator access, WordPress 6.3 or newer, and PHP 7.4 or newer. These are the declared minimum requirements; test compatibility with your own theme, hosting and plugins.
  • Working HTTPS and a backup of your current site. Keep WordPress and PHP on supported releases.
  • Your website’s On1Q Website ID and verification token. Never enter an account password or private API key into these fields.

Publisher self-registration is not available on the public website yet. Contact On1Q to discuss access before expecting a campaign to appear.

A connection, not a promise of earnings.

Campaign availability, service costs and any publisher payment arrangement are separate. Review the campaign’s terms before approving. Downloading or installing the plugin does not activate earnings; automated publisher payouts are not included in this release.

02 / INSTALL & CONNECT

Set up WordPress.

  1. Download the ZIP above. Keep it zipped; WordPress installs it for you.
  2. Upload it in WordPress. Open Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP, click Install Now, then Activate. If updating an existing On1Q installation, choose Replace current with uploaded. Do not delete it first.
  3. Open Settings → On1Q Widget. Enter this website’s complete Website ID, including its site_ prefix, and its verification token from On1Q. Use the verification token, not the widget key.
  4. Save the connection. Acknowledge the service connection. You may leave production off while verifying and previewing. Clear the homepage cache, then complete website verification and approval in On1Q.
  5. Review a campaign invitation. In the On1Q dashboard, open Publisher campaigns. Review the website, sponsor, questions, timing and terms, then approve or decline as the website’s owner/admin. An invitation link opens a review; it never approves on your behalf.

After the initial website connection, campaign approvals, pauses and timing changes stay in On1Q. You do not edit the plugin for every campaign.

03 / GO LIVE

Production mode.

In Settings → On1Q Widget, check Enable production mode on the public homepage and save. With an eligible campaign approved and active, a question appears automatically after its configured delay. Visitors do not need to click a preview button.

This release targets eligible public homepage URLs. It excludes other pages, query-string URLs, private/password-protected content, WordPress login/admin screens and WooCommerce account, cart and checkout contexts. Keep the homepage free of member-specific information.

To stop one campaign, pause its publisher permission in On1Q. To stop the entire site connection, turn off production in WordPress, save, and clear caches.

Upgrading from an older public preview button?

If your previous installation used the public click-to-load invitation, this upgrade leaves production off until you explicitly enable it. Existing automatic production connections retain their setting.

Data and visitor choices

Production connects to the On1Q service and uses browser storage for a visitor identifier and campaign-session limits. It shares website/campaign identifiers, page origin/path, browser information and answers/skips; query parameters are excluded. Update your website’s privacy notice and visitor-choice arrangements for your use of the service. The plugin does not send WordPress passwords, member profiles or registrations.

04 / PREVIEW SAFELY

On1Q test mode.

Test mode is a temporary preview for the logged-in WordPress administrator. It does not change production settings or campaign approvals. Other visitors keep normal production behavior.

  1. From Settings → On1Q Widget, click Start On1Q test mode (30 minutes).
  2. Stay in the same browser and administrator login. The dedicated homepage preview shows an On1Q test mode banner.
  3. Click Preview On1Q question. Only currently approved, active and eligible campaigns can be previewed.
  4. Try an answer or skip. Preview answers stay in the browser: no live results, impression counts or answer credits are recorded.
  5. Click Exit On1Q test mode. The page confirms: “You’ve exited On1Q test mode.”

After 30 minutes, the preview question closes and the banner identifies the expiry. Production stays exactly as it was. Closing the tab stops that page’s preview; the temporary server session expires on its own or can be ended from the WordPress reminder.

Visit Site opens the normal homepage. Use Start On1Q test mode for a preview. An expired preview cannot fetch a question; start a new session only when you want to test again.

Configure page caches and Cloudflare to bypass logged-in WordPress users and the on1q_preview and on1q_test_exited query URLs. Preview pages send private/no-store headers.

05 / WITHOUT WORDPRESS

Use the widget directly.

The plain JavaScript widget can also be installed on a non-WordPress website. First register, verify and obtain approval for that website in On1Q. After arranging the site’s privacy and visitor choices, place this script once before the closing </body> tag, only where questions are allowed to appear.

<script
  src="https://api.on1q.com/static/widget/microsurvey-widget.js?v=testmode1"
  data-site="YOUR_SITE_ID"
  data-site-mode="automatic"
  async></script>

Replace YOUR_SITE_ID with that website’s exact site_… ID. This is production code: approved campaigns may appear automatically. Never copy another website’s ID or add the script to login, checkout or private member pages.

The temporary administrator test mode described above is a WordPress plugin feature; it is not included in this direct embed. Contact On1Q for help with a non-WordPress installation.

06 / FIND AN ANSWER

Installation questions.

The plugin is installed, but no question appears.

Check the exact Website ID, verification and website approval, publisher invitation approval, campaign status/schedule, and available sponsor credits. Confirm production is enabled and use the plain homepage URL without query parameters. Browser-session frequency limits may prevent repeated questions; test production in a fresh private window. Clear cached homepage HTML after settings changes.

Test mode says no approved campaign is available.

Check Publisher campaigns in On1Q. A paused, pending or changed invitation cannot be previewed. Approve the current version and confirm the campaign is active and eligible. Test mode does not bypass those gates.

I cannot see the test banner.

The banner belongs on the dedicated website preview, not the On1Q dashboard or ordinary Visit Site page. Use the same browser that is logged into WordPress as administrator, then start test mode from Settings → On1Q Widget. Other browsers and login sessions do not inherit it.

Does a preview use credits or appear in results?

No. Administrator preview answers and skips stay local, and previewing adds no impressions, results or credit charges. A real answer on a normal production homepage is a live response and can consume an answer credit.

What if a campaign changes after I approve it?

Changes to the reviewed questions, timing, dates or placement terms require fresh publisher review before delivery resumes. Review and approve the updated version in On1Q; the plugin connection stays installed.

How do I get help or report an issue?

Use the On1Q contact form. Include the website, plugin version and what happened. Enter “Plugin support” in the publication field if appropriate. Do not send passwords, private keys or SMTP credentials.
